Children & Youth Workshops

1. Acrylic Painting featuring  Color Theory    

       June 13-16 (10am-noon)  >>>>>  ages 10-14 >>>>> $40*

A good experience for students who have basic knowledge of the Color Wheel (primary/secondary colors, warm/cool colors) but want to practice more with it. Attendees will participate in several small practice paintings and can plan to create 2-3 finished works.          *additional $10 material fee

2. Photography for Teens

       June 20-24 (9am-noon)  >>>>>  ages 13-19  >>>>>  $40*

Make your own pinhole camera and develop your black & white photos in the dark room. The class covers darkroom skills, photograms and contact prints. Bring a round cookie tin to the first class.            *additional $10 material fee

 3. Clay for Young People

       July 18,19,21,22+Aug 1 (9am-noon) >>> ages 11-19 >>> $60*

For beginners or intermediate students. The class covers wheel throwing, slab, coil and modeling clay. The first 4 classes will be clay construction. The last day is reserved for glazing.                             *materials and firing fee included in tuition

4. Art Camp for Kids – Imagine That!

       August 8-12 (10am-noon)   >>>> ages 8&up >>>>    $60*

During this week long “imagination camp”, young artists will have the opportunity to create imaginary 3-D paper mache’ creatures. Continuing in 3-D mode and incorporating mixed media, artists may create their creature’s environment via dioramas. Altered books complete the project, reflecting the tale of these imaginary beings. Imagination and creativity abound! Camp will conclude with a cookies and lemonade reception for family and friends and an opportunity for the young artists to present or exhibit their projects.

July 19 – Creature Feature.Make a fabric snake, insect, or other “creepy creature”. Draw and color a “skin”, then sew and stuff it to make it “come alive”.            .….  RHONDA PEGG

 

July 26 – Rock Pet Fun- Using paint, rocks & other materials create a  unique pet.       ….  NANCY DALVERNY

Nationally recognized ceramicist Ron Korzcynski will guide you through the processes he has developed over his long career.

·         Day 1 Clay mold making will be featured

Art for Adults

Open Studio Painting

Tuesdays through July   (1-4pm)

$18 per session ($15 instruction - $3 studio fee)

The open studio setting enables painters to practice their skills in an educational setting. You receive individual instruction on your level and learn from other students’ process. Drawing, design and color issues are continuously addressed. All mediums welcome.

Daring Color in Watercolor

6 Tuesdays beginning June 14 (6:30-9:30pm)

$60 members**

Through demonstration and individual attention, learn how to bring glowing color and vibrant darks to your watercolor painting. This class is for beginning painters and those who want to expand their knowledge of watercolor techniques. A supply list will be provided.

Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting

6 Thursdays beginning July 7 (1-4pm) >> $60 members**

Instruction is for beginner and intermediate oil painters. References will include still life subjects, photographs and plein air if the weather is good. The class will focus on mixing color, value (light and shadow), and focal point. A favorite topic is landscapes of local farms.

Photography Field Trip to Fort Ligonier

Wednesdays, June 29 & July 6 (9am-noon)  >>>>>  $25 + $10 entry fee to Fort Ligonier >>>

Take a private tour and learn how to use Elements of COMPOSITION to create images of this Historical Site. Your favorite camera – digital, disposable or film – is all the equipment you need. July 6 is for editing your pictures.

Portrait Sculpture

3 Tuesdays, 3 Thursdays beginning June 14 (2-4pm)

June 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30

$60* members**

Bring photos of yourself or whomever you wish to sculpt. Photos must be 8 1/2“x11” in size and must be of the face, each side (showing ears), back of head and top. Instruction will be given in how to analyze a face in order to get a resemblance. You will need an armature. If you do not have one, an armature can be purchased at the first class for $18. You must indicate when registering if you are purchasing an armature. Bring a notebook.

* $10 firing fee  >>>>>  clay to be bought from instructor $10 for 25 lb.

From west of Greensburg, take Rt. 30 East (Greensburg bypass) to Pleasant Unity Exit (Rt. 130). At light at end of ramp, turn right on to Rt. 130, then take immediate left just past the Sunoco Station (Todd School Road). Go 1 block to GAC on left.

From east of Greensburg, take Rt. 30 West and after passing Westmoreland Mall, get in the right lane (business Greensburg). At 2nd light, turn left on to Rt. 130 to Sunoco Station. Turn left immediately after Sunoco Station (Todd School Road) Go 1 block to GAC on left.
